Innovation and digital transformation are the main focus of ICT Week 2017

The Minister-Counsellor of the Delegation of the European Union to Brazil (DELBRA), Carlos Oliveira, opened the ICT Week 2017 on Monday (4) in Brasilia. The two-day event will discuss what he calls the 'fourth industrial revolution' - 5G, IoT, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing. For Mr. Oliveira it is clear that in this discussion about digital transformation, we need to involve many key actors, such as companies, academy and civil society in order to find solutions to the challenges presented. "The goal is to find an integration of points that lay deep within issues that go beyond geographical and political boundaries." Mr. Oliveira commented.

Moreover, Mr. Oliveira highlighted the importance of ICT Week and the milestone it represents in this cooperation and for technological development, while he mentioned the 10-year strategic partnership between the EU and Brazil. "Technological advances are especially important in order to respond to current challenges such as climate change, scarcity of resources, jobs and the wealth generation." Mr. Oliveira said.

The second edition of the ICT Week is organised by the European Union and the Ministry of Science Technology Innovation and Communications (MCTIC) and within the support of the Sector Dialogues Brazil-European Union. During these two days the discussion will revolve around innovation and digital transformation, covering key themes such as Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Entrepreneurship and Advanced Manufacturing.

The director of Policies and Support Programs in Innovation at MCTIC, Jorge Campagnolo, drew attention to the debates about advanced manufacturing. He pointed out that the second edition of ICT Week brings together the efforts of two secretariats of the ministry, SEPIN (Secretariat of Information Technology) and SETEC (Secretariat of Professional and Technological Education).

To finalize, the Secretary of Information Technology Policy of MCTIC, Thiago Camargo Lopes, defended the strengthening of the cooperation between Brazil and the European Union in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). "I am very optimistic about the dialogues and discussions we will have this week between Brazil and Europe, while we work side by side with regard to innovation and digital transformation," he said.
